FRS Plus FOCUS Files

The Financial Record System (FRS) enables a user to obtain various information and transaction activity on their particular University accounts through the use of its online screens. Depending on the screen selected a user can review such items as the year-to-date account activity, open commitments and account attributes. This same type of information can be derived from the FRS focus data files, which is a second data source available to users.

The FRS focus data files are updated each night by the Computer Center to reflect the prior day’s activities that took place on the Financial Record System. A user may use these focus data files provided their CMS account has been given access to them by the Computer Center. To request or verify that a CMS account has access to the FRS focus data files a user may contact the Financial Systems area at extension 3778 or 5887. Once a CMS account is linked the following steps need to be performed to get into the focus files.

Log onto to the Mainframe using the assigned CMS account then

From READY; ;Type INFOCUS

If this produces an "Unknown" message, please call the Financial Systems area at x3778 or x5887 and your CMS profile will be set up to allow the use of the INFOCUS command.

If the INFOCUS command works correctly then the following should appear on your screen:

FOCUS 7.0.8R 03/01/1999 10.03.55 7939.01

Please take note of the message above. This gives you instructions as to how to find out exactly what FRS focus data files are available to your CMS account. By typing the EX AUTHFOC at the caret symbol (>) a list of focus data files will be produced.

The appearance of the caret (>) and the message "VM READ" in the lower right hand corner of the screen indicates that focus commands can now be issued at the bottom of the screen). If you feel you do not have a comfortable understanding of basic FOCUS programming, please contact the Financial Systems area for instruction.

Next, in order to link to the focus data files, type EX F9530S99. A series of carets will appear as focus links the CMS account to all the focus data files for which the account is granted access. Each time the word "HOLDING" appears in the lower right hand corner of the screen, the user should hit the PAUSE key on the keyboard. After the screen scrolls, the final message will be as follows:
