Working With Files

In this section, we will go over the tools used to work with Files in the CMS environment. We will cover the use of Flist, FL, RL, and XEdit. These utilities can all be run from the CMS Ready prompt simply by typing their name.

The permanent file storage for your account is located on the A disk. These files will remain on the disk when you log off. Each user also has a temporary file space called the Z disk. These files will be deleted when you log off.

A file is referenced using three pieces of information: the file name, file type, and file location. A Focus executable file, for example, might be referred to as REPORT FOCEXEC A.

REPORT is the filename, FOCEXEC is the file type which in this case is a Focus executable, and A is the disk on which the files are located.
